The results of numerous scientific studies have added much weight to the belief that the human mind has the power to facilitate healing in the body. Just as imagining playing notes on a piano can stimulate the brain in the same way as actually playing the notes, imagining that your body is healing has been shown in many cases to promote actual healing.

It's well known in the world of elite sport that visualization techniques can aid an athlete's training by stimulating the actual muscles and neural pathways used in a movement without the need to physically perform the movement. This means that precise patterns of movement can be repeatedly practised without generating physical fatigue, thereby greatly lowering the potential for injuries to occur.

In the same way, it's possible that actual healing can take place in the body as a result of thinking about the healing process. If your thoughts are focused on how it would feel to be healed, the brain, unable to differentiate between actual healing and imagined healing, may then be stimulated to send out signals that lead to changes taking place at a cellular level and actual healing taking place as a result.

“The mind has exactly the same power as the hands: not merely to grasp the world, but to change it.”

Colin Wilson
